As part of the materials and processes module I looked into the main concepts and principles of CAM machines. This helped me to understand exactly they work and the similarities between machines. Previously I hadn't really given much thought to how the machines translates the designs feed into it to produce machine movements to shape material. I also kept hearing the machines being referred to as CNC (CNC lathe, CNC milling machine) but didn't really know what that meant, I guess I thought CNC was the company that made the machine, like Boxford?

This module also encourage me to start making use of the CNC machines as I has up to this point only used the laser cutter (a lot more than I should have). Admittedly I was put off using the CNC machines after witnessing other students having a tough time (Or sometimes complete melt downs) using them for their projects and the machines not working. The other reason for not using them in my first modules was i was scared of the machines not working and not having a project to hand in at the end. I played it safe and i shouldn't have.
Plan of action-
Plan of action-
- Have a play around with a CNC machine apart from the laser cutter (I need to get over my fears!)
- Use one of the mini tasks to create a little product to get to know the machine better and see what its capabilities are.
